Why Do You Need a Skin Check?

In Australia, where sun exposure is a significant concern due to high UV radiation levels, regular skin checkups are especially critical for maintaining skin health and detecting potential issues early. Skin cancers such as melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma are common in the country, making early detection vital for successful treatment. Routine checkups help monitor changes in moles or spots, particularly important in a sun-drenched environment where prolonged exposure increases the risk of skin damage.

Our doctors also understand that a potential skin cancer diagnosis can be stressful, and our team is here to support you every step of the way, from screening and diagnosis to treatment and follow-up care.

Here are the few reasons why you should consider skin checkup:

  1. Detect skin cancer early.
  2. Monitor changes in moles or spots.
  3. Identify and manage non-cancerous skin conditions.
  4. Ensure hidden areas are thoroughly examined.
  5. Receive personalised skincare advice.
  6. Prevent long-term damage from sun exposure or scars.
  7. Schedule based on personal risk factors for optimal care.

When Do You Need Skin Check Up ?

Regular skin checkups are vital for maintaining skin health and detecting potential problems early. They play a crucial role in identifying skin cancer, including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma, which are more effectively treated when caught early. We recommend that all Australian adults have a full-body skin exam at least once a year, especially if they have a history of skin cancer, a family history of skin cancer, or have a lot of sun exposure.

  1. Annually, as a routine check for skin health.
  2. If you notice changes in moles (size, shape, or color) or if they itch, bleed, or hurt.
  3. If you have a personal or family history of skin cancer.
  4. When you have numerous moles, freckles, or fair skin, increasing your risk.
  5. If you develop new skin growths or persistent rashes/irritation.
  6. Anytime you’re concerned about a specific spot or change in your skin.
